Dublin Celtic FC held off a determined SSF effort to escape with a 5-3 win on a rainy night in Livermore. Celtic opened up an early 2-0 lead, but South City came back with a goal from Greg Hui to be just a goal down heading into halftime.
SSF managed to equalize in the 52nd minute when Hui found the net again, but Celtic countered just 10 minutes later to regain the lead at 3-2. SSFAC kept the pressure on and had numerous chances at goal, but they were turned away by the Celtic goal keeper who had an outstanding game. Aidan Durgerian kept up his scoring streak and brought the teams even again with a goal in the 77th minute. SSF thought they had taken the lead after that when a strike by Hui crossed the line before being cleared away, but the referee didn't see it and the goal wasn't allowed.
Celtic managed to get 2 more goals in the final 10 minutes to put the game away for good. Although it was not the result they hoped for, South City played hard until the final whistle and kept the heat on as they worked to get back in it.
Next up for the team is a battle against one of their biggest rivals when they meet Santa Clara Sporting on Sunday, January 22nd with kickoff set for 10:30am at El Camino High School. This will be the 2nd meeting between the two this season as an earlier match saw the teams battle to a 0-0 tie.
