Game Comments:

SSFAC entered the match looking for a win vs a very tough Bay Area United team that had only dropped 1 contest in 14 games thus far. A first place seasonal finish was still in the back of their minds, but they knew they had to win the final 2 matches and get some help from other teams to have a realistic shot.

With all that on the line, South City came out and gave it all they had on the road in Alameda. The team created numerous chances early on and were finally rewarded when Jack Snowdon floated a free kick in the direction of Kian Katanforoosh who headed it home for a 1-0 lead. BAU battled back and evened the score in the 32nd minute with a goal of their own, and it was game on !

In the 40th minute, Katanforoosh again created an opportunity for the team as he got past a BAU defender and was tripped, giving SSF a penalty kick. Martin Wright stepped up to take it and showed that a head is better than 2 feet as his strike was saved by the BAU goalkeeper with a foot save that came back towards Wright who then struck it again only to have it hit the crossbar and rebound back to Wright a second time when he headed it home on his 3rd attempt to give South City a 2-1 lead at the half. Just like he drew it up !

Unfortunately for SSF, Aidan Durgerian picked up his 2nd yellow card of the match in the 49th minute and was ejected leaving SSF with 10 players for the remaining 41 minutes of the match. BAU took full advantage of the situation and found the equalizer in the 52nd minute.

The team then pulled it all together determined not to take a loss and fought hard for every ball and closed down every attempt by BAU to try and find a winner. Their amazing effort was rewarded as they were able to earn a well deserved 2-2 tie.

With only one match remaining aginst league leaders JASA RWC, a 1st place finish won't be in the cards for South City, but they will try to play spoiler and look to take JASA down while at the same time hoping to finish as high as they can in the Pacific Premier standings. SSFAC play JASA RWC on Saturday, March 4th with kickoff set for 7:00pm at Bechet Field in Redwiood City
