SSFAC Sets It's Roster for 2023-24 Season

SSFAC begins their 70th season of play this weekend as they open campaign number two in the SWPL's Pacific Premier League. Game one is a contest against a club they know very well, from just down the road in Redwood City. JASA RWC Reserves come to Colt Field @ El Camino High to try and spoil opening day for the home side on Sunday Sept 24th

This season will be a very competitive one as the 6 team league features some old foes and some new up and coming clubs that will provide a strong challenge for the top spot.

Besides JASA, the team will face familiar sides in Dublin Celtic FC, & Santa Clara Sporting. Joining them will be new entries to the league in Club Tepa & ASC Silicon Valley, formerly known as Juventus Academy. The early season favorite based on last years results will be Santa Clara Sporting, but SSFAC looks to make their bid to rise to the top of the league.

After a month of intense training sessions, Player Coach Kevin Ma & Assistant Coach Martin Wright have set the roster for the season.

Returning in goal for his 11th season is Adrian Monroy. Monroy recorded 4 shutouts last season to go with his 2.17 goals against average in 18 matches. Leading the defense in front of Monroy will be Bob Weger, Kevin Ma, & Djim Andemel anchoring the centerback positions, and outside backs, Martin Wright, Sam Nadell and Sully Donohue.

Strong wing play will come from Greg Hui,  Aidan Durgerian & Michael Wheaton. Hui led the team in scoring last season with 10 goals and 7 assists, while Durgerian chipped in with 9 goals and 4 assists. The team has a strong core of center midfielders with Kian Katanforoosh ( 7 goals & 7 assists ) Brendan Cadam, Felipe Gonzalez, Miguel Franco & Jack Snowdon

Goals are expected to come from the likes of forwards Ryan Waterston & Chris Kyriacou

SSFAC is excited to welcome back Fernando Costa after a years absence, and he will help solidify the defense in the centerback position. Joining the squad this year and looking to make an impact are outside back, Sebastian Mendoza, and midfielders Junior Pedemonte along with Omeed Miraftab-Salo

Reserve Players on the roster include Meyer Gorelick, Anthony Long, Varun Sood, Chris Zhou & Neehar Mukne

The SWPL season will continue into December, and at the conclusion of league play, the team will enter into the Abronzino Cup to be played into 2024.
