SSFAC opened their season against JASA RWC Reserves on a beautiful sunny afternoon at El Camino High School. South City started the match strong, controlling possession and creating opportunities, but failed to take advantage in the early stages.
They were made to regret those missed chances when at the 30 minute mark a misplayed pass in the midfield led to a JASA counter attack that gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Looking a bit stunned, SSF took the next 5 minutes to recompose before piling on the pressure before half time. Those efforts were rewarded when a cross field pass from newly signed Adam Snowdon, found fellow newcomer Omeed Miraftab-Salo in space on the left. The winger looked up and saw Ryan Waterston making a run to the back post and delivered a perfect ball into the box for Ryan to finish and the game was level at 1-1.
South City continued the second half the way they ended the first, with some good pressing and decent passing. At the 57 minute mark they found the spoils they'd been seraching for with a cross from the right by Adam Snowdon that found the head of Michael Wheaton to put the boys up by 2-1
The celebrations were short live however as a sloppy pass at the back gave JASA a one on one opportunity that they took full advanmtage of to knot the score again at 2-2
The next 10 minutes were a bit frantic before SSF found their stride again. They created some great chances, but a few good saves by the JASA keeper and a couple of strikes hitting the post kept the game square.
Full time result 2-2
Next up for the team is a clash with league leader & huge rival Santa Clara Sporting on Saturday evening Sept. 30th at Reed & Grant Sports Park. Match time is 4:30pm
