There was a lot of buzz and excitment at Colt Field Sunday morning as SSFAC played host to Club Tepa in a big Pacific Premier League matchup. No....Taylor Swift did not attend, but for those who did, they saw an epic match with SSF holding off Club Tepa to secure a 5-4 win in an offensive expolsion by both clubs.
SSF got on the board first when Greg Hui picked up an errant pass from Club Tepa to drive it home from outside the box for the early lead. Tepa didn't wait long to respond as they struck just five minutes later in the 20th minute to level the score at 1-1. The match was now a wide open affair with both clubs pushing up and down the pitch to assert control of the game. SSFAC opened up a 2 goal lead as Hui feed a through ball to Junior Pedemonte who's cross found Neehar Mukne who finished at the far post. Then just 5 minutes later at the 35th minute, Mukne sent a ball over the top to Hui who cut inside past his defender to slot home the ball at the far post . Not to be outdone, Tepa pulled one back with a shot from outside the box in the closing minute of the half to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of SSFAC at the break.
The 2nd half started with both clubs trying to find a way to establish a lead that wouldn't be threatened. SSFAC tried to put the game out of reach in the 60th minute, when another ball played over the top from Mukne found Felipe Gonzalez who half volleyed it to the near post for a 2 goal lead at 4-2.
However, Club Tepa was not about to go away quietly. A goal in the 70th minute followed by a very nice goal in the 80th minute when a cross to their striker resulted in him chesting the ball down for a volley to the far post leveled the game again at 4-4.
Now it was crunch time as both teams attacked with what energy they had left. Just as it seemed that a tie match was in the cards....Mukne notched his 3rd assist of the day with a long service to Hui who raced down the wing, cut to the inside and laid the ball off to Pedemonte who beat the keeper with his shot to put the game finally to bed with a 5-4 victory for the home side.
The game was an instant classic as both teams played with intensity and a fast pace providing a very entertaining match.
Next up for SSFAC is a match against the undefeated league leaders ASC Silicon Valley on Wednesday night November 29th at Bechet Field with kickoff at 8:00pm
