SSFAC went into Sunday's match knowing they needed a big win to keep pace with the front runners, and that is just what they got. Playing a shorthanded Shamrock Harps team that began the game with just nine available players, South City struck in the first minute on a Fabio Marques header after a perfectly placed cross from Andrew Pantano. Things seemed to settle down as the Harps tried to slow the pace of the game and play tight defense on South City. It worked for a while as SSF tried to find the right combination to break the Harps down. Then in the 25th minute the flood gates opened as SSF struck for 3 goals in the span of 3 minutes, and again with 3 more in the last five minutes of the half to roll to a 7-0 lead. In the second half, SSF tried to play a possesion game, and basically kill off the game clock as the match had been put away. Solid performances came from Marques with 2 goals and 3 assists, Blair Smith with 2 goals of his own, and Omar Perez-Diaz netting 2 goals in 2 minutes. Also finding the net were Ryan Wiegmann, Andrew Pantano, and Cesar Maldonado. Leandro Monteiro was brilliant on the wing and Rafa Arguello along with Maldonado took care of the midfield. The defense line of Ever Alvarez, Thoeun Huy-Chan, Kenny Ewbank, Damian Hites & Jim Burke kept the harps from mounting any serious threat, making for a fairly easy day for goalkeeper Abner Ramos who earned the shutout with a few key saves at the end. SSFAC returns home next week to battle Rovers SC in what will be a very key match.
