Game Comments:

SSFAC wanted to finish 2011 with a bang, and that they did as they got goals from 4 different players, including a 3 goal hat trick from Ryan Wiegmann and a record tieing 5 assists from Blair Smith on their way to an 8-3 demolishing of Grasshoppers. Wiegmann got things rolling when he directed home a corner kick from Leandro Monteiro in the 10th minute. Shortly thereafter, Fabio Marques powered a shot to the upper left corner after a pass from Blair Smith to make it 2-0. South City then put their strangle hold on the match when they found the net twice more just minutes apart when Wiegmann struck for goal number two coming from Smith, and then one minute later, Smith upping the lead to 4-0 when he finished another of his cleverly crafted free kicks from about 25 yards out. The South City midfield completely dominated the match as Smith, Monteiro, Bobby Quinlan, Andrew Pantano, and Omar Perez-Diaz kept possession and sending thru balls and crosses to Antony Reyes, Wiegmann & Marques. When called upon, the defense shut down numerous attempts by Grasshoppers to come forward and the fact that SSF outshot them by a whopping 31-8 shows the control exhibited by A.C. on this day. Ever Alvarez, Scott Ellis, Ian Preikschat, Harry Andreades & Damian Hites made sure that goalkeeper Abner Ramos would have a fairly easy day. Ramos did come up big in the late stages of the game when he made some brilliant saves to keep the Grasshoppers from getting close. The second half of the match saw Pantano record 2 goals, Marques getting his second tally, and Wiegmann finishing off his hat trick with a late goal to cap his best day for SSF. Blair Smith finished his day with a goal and 5 assists to equalize the most assists recorded by an SSF player in a game, matching the 5 of Ed Hill back in 2003-04. Grasshoppers managed to get 2 late scores as the game had already been decided and play got a little sloppy. South City now heads for the PSL Winter Break period knowing that they have accomplished quite a respectable record thru eleven games, as they look ahead to what will be an exciting title race down the stretch. First up will be the PSL Cup which begins in late January and then a return to league play in February. For now, a chance to relax and enjoy the Christmas holidays with family & friends. SSFAC will return to the training ground after New Years.
Happy Holidays Everyone !
