Game Comments:

SSFAC battled Rovers SC, and the heat on Sunday, and despite a great effort from the boys they came up on the short end of a 2-1 score. SSF struck first when Fabio Marques played a ball to Gareth Lea who then played it cleverly to Blair Smith. Smith turned on it from about 22 yards out to beat the goalkeeper and give South City and early lead. The two teams went at each other for the remainder of the half as SSF got strong play from Bobby Quinlan, Leandro Monteiro, Omar Nawabi, Damian Hites & Howard Choy. The defensive group of Scott Ellis, Reuben Wartens, Ever Alvarez, & Hany Helmy keep Rovers from having any major scoring threats and Abner Ramos was his usual steady self in goal. Midway thru the second half, Rovers were awarded a penalty kick when one of their forwards went down in the box. Although the play showed SSF clearing the ball, the referee determined the offensive player from Rovers was taken down. After converting the PK, Rovers struck again 8 minutes later when they scored off a head ball from inside the six yard box. SSF continued to apply pressure as Antony Reyes & Varney Johnson pressed forward to try an find the equalizer, but on this hot day it wasn't meant to be as Rovers closed out the game with the 2-1 victory. SSF next faces Sunnyvale United on October 7th.
