SSFAC continued it's winning ways on Sunday with a 6-0 blitz over FC Palo Alto. Two goals each from Fabio Marques & Blair Smith led the way, and tallies from Leandro Monteiro & Omar Nawabi helped South City to it's 4th straight win. The defense stood tall again in this match as sweeper Paul Pavich controlled the backline for SSF and and held FCPA to just 5 shots on target. Pavich patrolled the penalty area like he owned it and received terrific support from Reuben Wartens, Hany Helmy, Scott Ellis & Ruben Salazar. This group completely shut down any attempts from Palo Alto and they were able to start transition towards the offensive end with some great possession and passing. The midfield play was also dominant as Bobby Quinlan, Gareth Lea, Omar Nawabi, Leo Monteiro, Ruben Salazar along with Hany Helmy maintained the tempo and linked up with forwards Marques & Smith to create numerous chances on net. Quinlan had to leave the match just 5 minutes into the second half because of a groin strain, but his teammates in the middle took up the charge and never let FCPA get into any positive flow. Abner Ramos and Luis De Paz combined in goal to give SSF its 2nd shutout of the season. For De Paz, it was his first minutes with the team this season and he did an excellent job as he took over for Ramos in the second half earning them the combined shutout. Now SSF turns it's attention towards the league leading Shaheen when they come to Terra Bay Park next week in the battle for the top spot in the PSL Premier Division.
