SSF improved their record to 2-0 with a 4-1 victory over Club Sport Maritimo. After a 1st half that saw South City dominate play but fail to find the net, they notched 4 goals in a 13 minute span in the 2nd half to put the game away. Jack Orr opened the scoring after receiving a perfect lead ball from Blair Smith, and Orr calmly put it past the onrushing keeper for 1-0. After Maritimo evened the score just 2 minutes later, South City went back on the attack and tallied 3 strikes in seven minutes, with Bobby Quinlan, Blair Smith & Omar Nawabi all scoring to open up a 4-1 lead that would be the final score. SSFAC again displayed a terrific defense lead by center back Paul Pavich who also claimed an assist on the day. Ali Ibrahim and Reuben Wartens were solid on the outside as they thwarted every Maritimo attempt while at the same time generating some great outlet passes to teammates. Scott Ellis and Jack Orr were solid up the middle of the pitch and the center midfield was under total control thru the play of Quinlan and Gareth Lea. Pedro Crispin had an excellent day with pinpoint crosses and solid defense play, as well as Shane Kutaka, Leo Monteiro and Nawabi who all did their part to dominate wing play and shut down any runs from the Maritimo forwards. Adam Dhanens was a force for the team in the 1st half as he put many shots on target and completely took what the Maritimo defense gave him as he constantly made impressive runs into the area to create chances for his teammates. Fabio Marques had some opportunities in the second half, but his shots were just slightly off target as he made challenges into Maritimo half. Adrian Monroy captured his second win in the nets for South City, as he came out to collect everything in his area and made a couple of spectacular saves to completely frustrate Maritimo. SSF now looks ahead to a challenge from CLC Sporting next week.
