Game Comments:

SSFAC equaled it's longest win streak since 1995-96 when they knocked off Harmonie 3-2 to record their 6th straight win. Harmonie struck first in the 14th minute when they converted a free kick that was headed into the net, but South City answered back 6 minutes later with a blast from Bobby Quinlan to equalize at one apiece. It was a battle of the midfields as each team tried to take control. As Harmonie pushed forward, SSF took possession of a pass and Blair Smith found Leo Monteiro wide open on the left wing. Leo raced up the line going towards goal and sent a perfectly weighted cross to Adam Dhanens who deposited it into the net for a 2-1 lead. Late in the 1st half, Harmonie came back a leveled the score at 2-2. The second half began with the intensity of the match increasing and both teams desperately looking for the go ahead goal. It came just 10 minutes in when Omar Nawabi sent a ball into the area for Leo Monteiro that he was unable to play as he was pushed to the ground resulting in a penalty kick. Monteiro calmly put home the PK giving SSF a 3-2 lead. There were still 35 minutes left in the half and South City suffered a loss when Adam Dhanens could not continue because of a quad injury. South City then adjusted their line-up and Blair Smith came back into the defense as the sweeper to help keep Harmonie off the board. SSF had started with just 3 in the back for this game while deploying a 5 man midfield in an attempt to seize control on the midfield. That plan was working well as Quinlan, Monteiro, Nawabi, Shane Kutaka & Pedro Crispin played outstanding matches, giving it everything they had for all 90 minutes as SSF only had 12 players available for the game, which then dropped to 11 when Dhanenes went out. Crispin and Kutaka were instrumental in thwarting Harmonie's runs at goal, and the back line of Scott Ellis, Reuben Wartens & Ali Ibrahim stepped up to play great defense while under much pressure throughout the match. Robbie Cuda came back into the match when Dhanens departed and played a huge role in breaking up the passing lanes that Harmonie was trying to establish. He also created many dangerous runs up the wing as SSF maintained possession late in the game to close it out. Goal keeper Adrian Monroy was tested often during the match and came up with a couple of fantastic saves late to help preserve the victory. SSF returns to action next week when they host Palo Alto SC at Aragon High beginning at 2pm
