No one said it would be easy, and if the start to the season seemed like it, SSF knew better as they faced the beginning of a tough three game stretch with some of the top clubs in the Majors Division. So it was yesterday, as SSFAC and Palo Alto SC battled to a 1-1 draw. After a scoreless 1st half, South City got on the board when a perfect ball off the foot of Bobby Quinlan found Blair Smith who headed it home with authority, to give the boys a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately it only lasted about 6 minutes as PASC answered back to knot the game at one. It then settled into a battle of determination as both clubs tried to get the game winner. Defensively South City was again strong and goal keeper Adrian Monroy was tasked with coming up with some huge saves. The midfield tried to control the match and the offensive had their share of moments as Alex Jackson fired off a couple of great shots only to be denied. In the end, it was Monroy who saved the day for SSF, after a mistake in the back left a PASC forward all alone to bear down on him. He did the only thing he could, taking the player out and committing a foul outside the area as the game was deep into stoppage time. It earned him a sendoff, but the ensuing free kick was knocked down by the defensive wall and the game was over. Monroy had saved the game and preserved South City's unbeaten record. Next up for the team is another intense opponent as they face Gordon Biersch next Sunday
