Game Comments:

SSFAC picked up their 9th win of the season as 2 goals from Gareth Lea and a dominating possession game from the team came on a day that saw it rain throughout the contest. South City took control early and was only kept off the scoreboard because of a strong game from the Outsiderz's keeper. The defense lead by recent signing Stephen Shaw-Smith, (back to the team after a 3 year absence) was terrific as Outsiderz did not even get off 1 shot on goal in the 1st half. Strong defensive play also came from Scott Ellis, Robert Rustia, Ali Ibrahim, & Reuben Wartens, who returned to the club after a month away due to injury. The midfield controlled the pace of the game with great possession as they tried to pick apart the Outsiderz defense. Pedro Crispin, Shane Kutaka, Gareth Lea, Jack Orr and Leandro Monteiro did much of the work on a pitch that was slowly getting drenched in the continuing rain. Meanwhile up front, Blair Smith, Adam Dhanens, Andrew Elliott and Fabio Marques took numerous shots on goal as SSF tried to break thru and take the lead. It finally came in the 60th minute when Andrew Elliott receive a perfect through ball and drilled a shot that the keeper couldn't hold and Gareth Lea pounced on the rebound and put it home with the left foot for a 1-0 lead. SSF continued to dominate as the midfield completely took over the game and didn't let Outsiderz even begin to get any rushes towards goal. The one time they did sneak through, goal keeper Adrian Monroy turned away a strong shot that was headed for the upper left corner. Monroy extended himself to reach the shot and push it away thus preserving the shutout. SSF closed out the scoring when Shane Kutaka, who drove Outsiderz nuts with his punishing runs all day, sent a ball to Lea, who chipped it into the air and it eluded the keeper whose valiant efforts to keep it out of the goal didn't work out. SSF now turns it attention to PCC in a rematch next Sunday at Aragon High School.
