SSF got off to a flying start as Leo Monteiro chipped the ball over the goal keeper's head in the 3rd minute to give South City an early 1-0 lead. The play started with a two great passes from Reuben Wartens and Kevin Steiger to send Monteiro in alone on the keeper. Things turned sour 17 mins. later when South City keeper Adrian Monroy was ejected for a deliberate hand ball outside the penalty area. He had come out to play a long ball away from the oncoming AFC forward and his own defender. When the 3 players came together, the ball struck Monroy outside the area and the referee called the hand ball. SSF was forced to play a man down and Andrew Elliott stepped into the goal to play keeper. He did a fabulous job, but luck would turn on SSF as they hung onto the lead until the 67 minute. In the next 15 mins., 2 penalty kicks were awarded to AFC on what seemed to be very controversial calls. South City at this point had lost another player to a red card and was playing with just 9 men. It turned out to be too much to overcome as the team lost the match by a count of 3-1 with the final tally coming in the 90th minute.
