SSFAC responded with a big win this past weekend as they defeated Shaheen 3-2. Entering the game shorthanded due to injuries, suspensions and players unavailable, South City still managed to come up with a positive result in a game they needed. They started the match with only 10 players, but early in the 1st half managed to get the 11th player on the pitch. It was a tense battle that saw an early turning point when back up goal keeper Abner Ramos, saved a penalty kick from the Shaheen forward in the 22nd minute. Ramos, started the match in place of Adrian Monroy who was serving a red card suspension, and he came up huge making save key saves throughout the game that frustrated the Shaheen attack. He shutdown two breakaway attempts with brilliant saves late in the game to help preserve the victory. SSF got on the board when Kevin Steiger continued his scoring streak, taking a beautiful pass from Gareth Lea and putting it home for a 1-0 lead. Andrew Elliott started the play finding Lea and sending him a perfect pass to start the play. After Shaheen answered with a goal of their own 2 minutes later, Steiger struck again after taking a great pass from Roberto Miranda to put SSF back on top at 2-1. The team got solid midfield play from Leo Monteiro, Shane Kutaka, Stephen Shaw-Smith and Lea as they took control of the play and thwarted the Shaheen attack. Miranda, Reuben Wartens, Scott Ellis and Andrew Crowe were solid on defense and knocked down numerous shots, clogged the passing lanes, and cleared the ball out of danger to stabilize the team. Shaheen scored a late goal to make the score close, but it wouldn't be enough to catch SSF on this day. Next up is FC Palo Alto on November 23rd.
