SSFAC defeated PCC of Half Moon Bay 4-3 to advance to the Second Round of the Abronzino PSL Cup. South City got 1st half goals from Kevin Steiger, Stephen Shaw-Smith, and Bobby Quinlan to race out to a 3-0 lead. SSF dominated the match possession and out shot PCC by a count of 33-10. Pcc eventually found the net to cut the lead to 3-1, and with just 4minutes remaining in the match, struck again to close the gap to 3-2. South City answered the challenge just 2 minutes later when Shaw-Smith tallied his second of the match after a nice pass from Leo Monteiro. PCC closed out the scoring with a goal in added time. Adrian Monroy as the man of the match in goal for South City as he made some outstanding saves, two in particular, when PCC was putting on pressure and Monroy turned away back to back shots from close range to keep SSF in the lead. The defense was solid and played extremely well in front of Monroy with Andrew Crowe, Scott Ellis, Roberto Miranda & Reuben Wartens denying PCC any real good build up opportunities. Midfield play was very good with the team picking up many loose balls and challenging PCC for every possession. Gareth Lea, Bobby Quinlan, Leo Monteiro, Blair Smith, and Stephen Shaw-Smith were in total control. Andrew Elliott and Kevin Steiger made life difficult for the PCC defense as they kept coming in waves to attack the goal.
SSFAC now enjoys the PSL winter break and returns to action on Sunday, January 11th, when they meet San Mateo Dinamo at El Camino High School in SSF with kickoff set for 10:30am
