It turned out to be the titanic battle that was expected. The top seed and defending champions against the upstart local boys, looking to take the top spot away. SSFAC started well putting real pressure on Santa Clara Sporting's back line which lead to them making some mistakes and giving SSF some solid chances in front of the goal. With both sides evenly matched, Sporting broke through as their striker poked home a goal from inside the 6 yard box. Just minutes later their forward placed another shot to the corner of the goal giving the champs an early 2-0 lead.
SSF were stunned, but managed to stay calm and keep possession of the ball, as Sporting were playing longballs into their strikers. South City tried desperately to pull a goal back before the half, but just couldn't find a way through.
The second half started the same way with South City pushing Sporting all he way. Eventually, SSF got the goal with some nice touches in the final third where Danny Turgeon was left on his own, and managed to squeeze the ball home to cut the lead to 2-1. With Sporting sitting back, SSF came on strong trying to find the equalizer, but in the end, that goal turned out to be elusive and the match finished with a Sporting 2-1 victory to clinch yet another Majors Division title.
Next up for South City is a match with JASA Dos as SSF looks to lock down a 2nd place finish in the Division.
