SSFAC were back on the road Sunday as they faced Shaheen FC of San Jose in a very tight, intense match up. South City started out slow, and Shaheen tried to take early control of the match. SSF worked hard at trying to string together some passes and create something in the offensive end, but Shaheen stayed strong on defense and denied any attacks. Both teams had some scoring chances, but neither side could convert and the match went into halftime scoreless.
The second half saw SSF come out with more intensity and a change of personal in different positions, that began to create more scoring opportunities. Both Cory Schmidt and Aidan Durgerian had some good chances, but South City just couldn't get the ball in the net. They finally managed to get one home, but it was disallowed due to offside.
SSFAC still had to stay alert at the back with Adrian Monroy, Fernando Costa Gareth Lea and Chris Zhou turning away every Shaheen attempt on goal. In the 80th minute, South City wound up playing a man down as Durgerian was issued his 2nd yellow card which earned a red and an ejection from the match. The team tightened things up and managed to see the final 10 minutes out to grab a much needed 1 point on the road with the result being a 0-0 deadlock. Goalkeeper Adrian Monroy collected his 3rd shutout of the season in just 5 games played and continues to be a difficult person to beat.
SSFAC retruns to action on Sunday, December 5th, when they travel to Half Moon Bay to take on Deportivo Cometa. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm at Cunha Internediate school
