SSFAC returned to action this past Sunday fresh off their winter break, and they we quick to show that there was no rust in their play. After a bit of a slow start that allowed Shaheen to take early control of the match, South City began to grow into the game and managed to gain possesion in some key areas thanks to Connor Grant, Carlos Ballesteros, Brendan Cadam and Gareth Lea. Shaheen were finding things about to become more difficult when Connor Grant struck with a great shot to open the scoring. South City were now on their game, playing with confidence and with terrific ball movement, Goal number 2 came on great play from Martin Wright on the wing as he crossed the ball to Ballesteros for the first of his 3 goals on the day. With SSFAC now in command of the match, the team still had to be on their giuard against a very physical Shaheen side. The defense again rose to the occasion with Bob Meyer, Fernando Costa and Kevin Ma standing strong helping goal keeper Adrian Monroy notch his 5th shutout in 7 games. His Goals Against average has dropped to an amazing 0.42. South City claimed their 3rd goal before halftime as Brendan Cadam played a perfect ball to Djim Andemel who fired home a shot from inside the box for his first of two tallies on the day.
The second half started with SSF in full controlof the match, and they were threatening on every attack. Ballesteros got his 2nd goal after some hard work from Grant to set him up, then Andemel found his 2nd on a corner kick from Ballesteros. Chris Kyriacou then found Ballesteros with a wonderful pass that gave him his 3rd finish on the day, and finally in the 73rd minute, Brendan Cadam battling hard in the midfield played the ball to Carlos (have yourself a game ! ) Ballesteros who poked it forward to Kyriacou for the 7th goal on the day. Ballesteros ended his day with a hat trick and 2 assists.
Unfortunately, the match was cut short by 10 minutes as the referee halted play due to unsportsmanlike behavior from two Shaheen players. SSFAC returns to Redwood City to face JASA Dos on Sunday, January 16th with kickoff set for 6pm at Bechet Field
