SSFAC continued on their quest for a Majors Division title when they held off a very tough JASA Dos for a 2-1 win Sunday. South City started the match a bit slowly as JASA had full control early on. SSF held their shape and worked hard to keep JASA off the score sheet. They received the usual strong and effective play from the defense with GK Adrian Monroy, Bob Weger, Meyer Gorelick, Fernando Costa and Kevin Ma playing brilliantly in the back. SSF slowly found their legs and began to get back into the game with great chances created from Greg Hui, Sam Nadell, Carlos Ballesteros, and Chris Kyriacou. Unfortunately, those opportunites were just going off target, but eventually South City got their goal as Kevin Ma played a great ball to Chris Kyriacou who finished with a wonderful goal. South City continued to counter but couldn't find goal number two. JASA still posed a threat and found themselves on the scoreboard just before halftime when a cross into the box struck a SSF player in the hip and deflected into the goal.
The 2nd half started with SSFAC determined to get a goal and put the game to bed. JASA were battling hard and SSF still found chances on the counter attack, with Hui, Ballesteros and newcomer Yattara Souleymane having individual one on ones with the JASA keeper, but couldn't force the ball home. In the 70th minute, South City found the game winner as a through ball played to Greg Hui was shot on goal and initially saved by the JASA keeper, but Chris Kyriacou was on hand to slot home the rebound to give the team the lead it would hold onto for the last 20 minutes. Jasa were reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes remaining as a player was sent off after getting a 2nd yellow card.
SSF keeps their unbeaten streak alive at 8 games and heads to San Jose next Sunday, January 23rd for the final encounter with Shaheen FC. Game time is 4:00pm at Watson Park
