Game Comments:

Back in late September, as the team began their training sessions for the new season, it was evident that the roster they were forming had the potential to do great things. The coaches and players made it their ambition to not only be a very competitive side, but to go all out and win the Majors Division Title. On Sunday, that ambition became a reality as SSFAC defeated JASA Dos 8-3 to wrap up the Divison Title with 3 games still to play on the schedule. This team not only achieved their goals, but their amazing perfomance throughout the season exceeded what they knew might be possible. With the final 3 games, they have a chance to set some team records and write their own chapter in the history of this club. If Sunday was any indication, they have a realistic shot to do so.

After a sluggish start that saw JASA Dos keeping possesion and causing threats in the attack, they were able to strike 1st within the opening 10 minutes. South City began to up their game,  take control and soon after found the equalizer after some nice play from Greg Hui who played the ball off to Yattara Souleymane who stroked it home. SSF then got stronger on the ball and Fernando Costa found Souleymane again who put the boys in front with a wonderful finish. The team had to be on guard as JASA were coming forward with their own attacks, but SSF got into a nice groove and put home 3 more tallies before the half. First up was Carlos Ballesteros on an assist from Hui, then a perfect penalty kick finish from Chris Kyriacou, followed by Ballesteros again on a well played ball from Connor Grant.

As the 2nd half began, South City came out strong, but so did JASA Dos, who felt they could still get something from this game. JASA scored 5 minutes in to cut into the gap and showed some confidence as they felt they could get another and pressure SSF into mistakes, but SSFAC wasn't having any of it as they got their 6th goal on some fabulous work from Brendan Cadam. JASA wouldn't go away and were awarded a penalty kick that they managed to barely get by Adrian Monroy. The game was turning into a real track meet at this point and SSF were not done. Connor Grant made a great run and Hui was right there with him to tap home another. With still a good amount of time left on the clock, the final goal came on a brilliant cross field pass from Martin Wright to Denis Ivanov who slotted it home for his first of the season. The team managed to maintain most of the possesion in the final 8 minutes to put the game to bed. A very emotional and satisfying victory that saw this terrific young team notch thier first Divisional Title since the 1996-97 season. A hard working group, a dedicated group, a proud group, and together they continue to reach for success.
